How Does IPL Work?

For treatment of unwanted hair, IPL works by targeting the melanin (colour) in the hair follicles with quick pulses of light.

The light emitted by the IPL pulse is absorbed by the melanin in the hair, it heats up here within the follicle until the structure is broken down and unable to produce a new hair.

Permanent hair reduction is achieved during the 'anagen' phase of hair growth. About 30% of hairs are in this stage of growth at any one time and this is why a course of treatments is required.

Effective Treatment For Unwanted Hair

What areas can be treated?

Unwanted hair can be removed from most parts of the body including: legs, upper lip, chin, bikini line, underarm and the back.

How does it feel?

Thanks to the cryo-handset which cools the treatment area, IPL hair reduction is virtually pain-free. Some people liken it to being flicked with an elastic band. As IPL isn't as painful as other hair removal treatments it can be used even on sensitive areas like the face. SkinBase IPL is much more comfortable than most conventional methods like waxing, laser and electrolysis and longer lasting.

How good is it?

Some less advanced IPL systems can only be used on a limited number of skin types but the SkinBase IPL works on almost all skin colours except very dark skin. Secondly, unlike other IPL systems it allows fine tuning of the settings to suit specific skin colour and hair combinations in order to obtain the best results possible.

When will I see the result?
